Background: The AFROHUN One Health Academy, accredited by Uganda’s National Council for Higher Education, is dedicated to training a globally skilled One Health workforce capable of addressing the world’s most pressing health threats. With a legacy spanning over 15 years, the Academy is at the forefront of bridging critical gaps in pandemic and disaster preparedness and response strategies, emphasizing leadership and innovation. Headquartered in Uganda, the Academy serves as a Centre of Excellence in Global One Health Security, with partnerships extending across continents. In 2024, the Academy will inaugurate a novel postgraduate diploma in Pandemic Preparedness and Response, utilizing a One Health approach to deliver a comprehensive, global perspective.
Program Overview: Pandemic responses require navigating intricate, unforeseen challenges. This course equips participants with essential competencies in planning, selecting appropriate response modes, mobilizing resources, and engaging communities worldwide. The curriculum is built on the premise that both responders and affected populations can co-create knowledge and strategies to manage pandemics through a One Health lens.

Program Assessment: Participants will be assessed through continuous coursework and projects, culminating in an online final examination. Successful candidates will be awarded a globally recognized Postgraduate Diploma in Pandemic Preparedness and Response using a One Health Approach.
Admission Requirements: AFROHUN One Health Academy welcomes applicants from around the globe. The program is designed to be inclusive and adaptable to international standards. Below are the general admission requirements:
- Secondary Education: A high school Certificate or equivalent with a strong academic record. International applicants should have qualifications comparable to Uganda’s Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE). Applicants must have successfully completed high school in any subjects
- Diploma Holders: Applicants with a diploma in a relevant disciplines from recognized institutions are encouraged to apply. The disciplines may include; Human Health, Animal Health, Environmental Health, Microbiology and Infectious Disease, Food Safety and Security, Climate and Environmental Change, Social Sciences and Policy, Data Science and Technology and Education and Communication. This is because, these disciplines work together to identify, prevent, and mitigate health risks that arise at the interface of humans, animals, and the environment, contributing to a comprehensive approach to health challenges.
- Mature Age Entry: Applicants aged 25 or older who have passed the Mature Age Entry Examinations in Health Sciences with at least 50% marks are eligible.
- Equivalent International Qualifications: AFROHUN One Health Academy accepts equivalent qualifications from recognized educational institutions worldwide. International applicants are advised to check their country-specific qualification requirements.

Mode of Delivery: Blended and Mentored Experiential Learning and Training. A combination of learning approaches will be used to allow students to study flexibly from anywhere. Courseworks that involve case studies, interactive discussions with global peers and experts, valuable readings, and assignments designed to deepen understanding and practical skills will be used.
