Program Overview: The AFROHUN One Health Academy (AOHA), accredited by Uganda’s National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE), is a premier institution committed to cultivating a skilled Global One Health workforce to tackle pressing global health challenges. Drawing on over 15 years of expertise from the Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN), the AOHA is uniquely positioned to address critical gaps in the global health technology workforce, with a particular focus on pandemic preparedness, disaster management, and health crisis response. As a recognized Centre of Excellence in Global One Health Security, the Academy is aligned with the Global Health Security Agenda and will introduce its flagship Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics program in 2024. The Academy collaborates extensively with national, regional, and international partners.
Why Pursue a BSc in Health Informatics? In today’s interconnected world, the rise of eHealth systems, particularly in developing countries, has spurred a global demand for professionals skilled in health technology. The BSc in Health Informatics equips graduates with the essential skills to design and implement digital tools that enhance healthcare efficiency, reduce costs, broaden patient access, and improve the precision of diagnosis, treatment, and disease management. This program is designed for those who aspire to make home-grown and global impact in health informatics, bridging the gap between technology and healthcare.
Program assessment and Certification: Students must complete compulsory coursework and projects as part of continuous assessment, with an online final exam conducted every semester. Upon successful completion, graduates will receive a globally recognized Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics degree.
Admission Requirements: AFROHUN One Health Academy welcomes applicants from around the globe. The program is designed to be inclusive and adaptable to international standards. Below are the general admission requirements:
- Secondary Education: A high school Certificate or equivalent with a strong academic record. International applicants should have qualifications comparable to Uganda’s Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE). Applicants must have successfully completed high school subjects relevant to the program, such as Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Biology.
- Diploma Holders: Applicants with a diploma in a relevant health discipline or Information and Communications Technology (ICT) from recognized institutions are encouraged to apply.
- Mature Age Entry: Applicants aged 25 or older who have passed the Mature Age Entry Examinations in Health Sciences with at least 50% marks are eligible.
- Equivalent International Qualifications: AFROHUN One Health Academy accepts equivalent qualifications from recognized educational institutions worldwide. International applicants are advised to check their country-specific qualification requirements.
- Program Mode of Delivery: Blended and Mentored Experiential Learning and Training. A combination of learning approaches that allows students to study flexibly from anywhere. Coursework that involves case studies, interactive discussions with experts, valuable readings, and assignments designed to deepen understanding and practical skills.
